Day 9 Coast to Coast Keld to Reeth

Swaledale
Day 9 pictures
I purchased some ear plugs to get around the chiming clock problem, however I found with the bloody window closed, they were barely audible.
It's easy when you know how!!
So sleep was much better, though an early start, as we had to be picked up and taken to Keld, by the people who were taking our bags from place to place, Packhorse.
A quick trip to Keld, out of the bus, packs on, then off.
As usual a very grey day with low cloud and once again a choice of routes.
At decision time rain threatening once again, so the low route it is along the River Swale.
Apart from the start, where we briefly join the Pennine Way, and reach the HALF WAY point of the Coast to Coast, it is mostly fairly flat with great views across the valley of the river to places like Muker, Crow Trees, Low Oxhop, Satron and Hag Wood.
Gunnerside
The weather stays fine and I have no need of a rain jacket, all day.
We go through Gunnerside, and at this point I take an alternative path, and we have to bash through Rowleth Wood, long a very narrow, overgrown path with stinging nettles.
We can see most of the walkers down on the riverbank and we're about 100 metres higher then them.
We finally get out of the woods and find our way halfway back down to the river and have our first unhurried lunch, that is until it starts to spit with rain.
It's then back on the track again, a longish road walk and then a nice grass track.
We finally hit the back streets of Reeth, past the doctors surgery, and then we arrive at the Buck Hotel, our accommodation of the night.
Our rooms are quite capacious, the water hot, however the heaters aren't on to dry our clothes, the ones we washed in the shower.
Reeth sits around the village green and is very picturesque, has four pubs and a variety of cafe's and tea houses.
Reeth Village green

The village green is packed with cars, the reason not obvious till we come across an old bus with the destination "Wedding".
It rains off and intermittently so it dinner in our pub.
