A good night’s sleep was helped by awakening to clear skies and bright sunshine.
The drying room and drier had got most of the stuff dry with the exception of our boots. They were still exuding water.
Breakfast was not until 8.30AM a long time when you wake at 6.30AM and really want to start walking at 8 or thereabouts.
It was worth waiting for, with good choices and plenty of it, a buffet style.
We finally got away at about 9.20AM, far too late really, however it was all made worth it by the walking.

A quick back track and we were on the right track a very pretty transit up a gill Stonethwaite Beck, then Greenup Gill leading us to a very steep climb to Lining Crag with simply stunning views around the area we had been walking the previous few days.
We met up with some Americans whom we had shared accommodation in St Bees. They weren’t walkers, or at least two weren’t however they were doing well, albeit slowly.
The weather was sunny with some cloud, however the contrast to yesterday was startling.
We lunched at the appropriately named Greenup Edge with vistas to the east, the direction we are heading.

It was then a very steep descent down, down, down through Grassmere Common, marshy wet boggy land.
We finally emerged into Grassmere, a reasonably large village with coffee shops, pubs and craft shops with a large number of people all trying to eat, drink and park their cars.
On our way into Grassmere we pass Lancrigg, Wordsworth’s house. “I wandered lonely as a cloud..” and all that.
We had to call a taxi as we are staying in Ambleside about 15 minutes away. A taxi is available to carry us to our accommodation, which to say the least has tiny rooms and Arrienne, Peter and I are, well, crowded. And there is no internet connection!!
Our wet feet from yesterday DID not get any dryer today.
In a moment of stupidity I decided to dry my orthotics on the heater, to discover some time later that they are delaminating and shrinking with the heat!! It’s a long way to get replacements.
Dinner is at the White Lion, however there is a 40 minute wait for our meal, time to get suitably tanked, as the ladies proceed to do. The gentlemen are much more subdued.
The meal is OK, the company better.
I head off early to get some paper towel to stuff into my boots.
Sleep comes easily, however through the night I can hear the rain falling.
The weather forecast is for, guess what? RAIN
