Day 0 Coast to Coast St Bees

Link to pictures
It’s an early morning to get ready for the taxi to take us to our train to St Bees.
We forgo breakfast, however Angela, our chirpy hostess, puts together some rolls and muffins in its stead.
We get all our gear together and assemble at the front door to find other walkers having breakfast early.
Damn. We do manage to cadge a cup of coffee.
The taxi is early, so of course we are way too early for our train and hang around Inverness Station waiting for the East Coast Express to Edinburgh.
We duly get on board and enjoy a fine two and half hour ride through the highlands of Scotland, ending in the aforesaid Edinburgh, via Gleneagles and Stirling.
Our stop at Edinburgh is too short to manage any sightseeing.
Carlisle Castle
It’s then onto the Trans Pennine Express to Carlisle, which is less exciting from a tourist point of view.
Another change of trains at Carlisle, where we just have time to get a quick view of the castle then another train to St Bees. The train is pretty full with people with back packs and walking poles.
We sit near a couple from the US who are also doing the Coast to Coast.
They don’t do much walking at all, however when they heard it was the “Coast to Coast Walk” thought well we can walk, so we can do it!! They have done some training, with a few walks of up to 8 miles, though "you know how hot it is in the US so we haven’t done that much".
They are staying in our B and B so we will start with them tomorrow.
We meet up with Margaret and Eve who have been having their own adventures in Scotland and Birmingham respectively.
Our B and B is very close to St Bees and Arrienne, Peter and I have our own self contained unit. Luxury, except the loo is down a very steep set of stairs.
We get our pebbles
St Bees is quite quaint and we do the obligatory trip to the beach to dip the toes in the Irish Sea and get our pebble to take across to Robin Hood’s Bay.
The local pub puts on a pretty ordinary tea and we retire back to our digs for a tea and coffee and a chat about tomorrows walk.
